"A La Vanille" is happy to offer an exciting Summer program for the month of July, 2010.
Summer camp is open Monday through Friday, 9 am till 4 pm. In addition to following the regular daily structure, we'll use culturally relevant themes to expound on the learning-through-fun environment.
Campers will enjoy playing outdoors in the water, working in the vegetable garden and creating arts and crafts projects based on our weekly themes. Please send a swimsuit with your child each day. Parents may also provide a disposable camera for teachers to take pictures.
Children will be split up into two age groups, so that they participate in age-appropriate activities.

Last summer campers had a blast making Quiche, Tabouleh and homemade pizza.
This year we are adding the ever-popular regional French dish called "Tartiflette".
We'll make enough so that parents get to try some too!
This recipe will be included in the cookbook that goes home at the end of camp.
All children will participate in cooking according to their abilities and age.

African week has been by far the most popular event in ALV summer camp history!
This summer we are offering two weeks back to back so as to afford time to do all the wonderfully African things campers love to do, like:
Making fou-fou and eating it African style, dancing the harvest dance to Franco-Congolese music and reading books and singing songs from French-Africa, including the French version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"(new this year).

This week children will help create sweet dishes such as merringes, madeleines, gateaux de yaourt and a new dessert called "verrines" (Trust us, it's all the rage in France!)
At the end of the week, children will bring home a recipe book representing everything we cooked in July .
